Tuesday, February 27, 2001 :: 12:15 p.m. " Gojyo thought Genjo Sanzo was about as holy as the pigs in the sty, but he only said it when he was on his way to drunk, or Sanzo had particularly pissed him off. He tried not to mention it around the kid, because Goku thought Sanzo was right up there with Buddha and iced drinks and particularly large and assorted all you could eat buffets." That quote is from Vindication , a fic by Pam Nunnally. ( There are two parts; the second one is here. ) It made me crack up, because that really is just SO Goku. XD It's cold again. I've been wearing my clogs recently ( because I'm too lazy to tie up my docs, usually ) and I like it when it's cold. That means the mud stays frozen. I tend to cut through fields, walk between houses, cut through blocks...so I appreciate an un-muddy world for me to tramp through. ^^ I *hate* working in group projects. It never works out. Today three classmates and I are supposed to lead a three-hour discussion on medical ethics for our honors class. So last week, I read all the readings, make up a handout, and wait for the other people to call me. Last night I get a couple emails, saying, essentially, " let's get together 30 minutes before class and figure out what to do." ...which means that this is gonna be a SHITTY presentation if I don't try to do most of it myself. Luckily, I got ahold of another group member and between the two of us we figured out what to do last night. But really, it fucking pisses me off. I'm a world-class procrastinator, but c'mon! o.o;; Why the fuck do I always end up being the one freaking out that no one else has done their work? I should be more regular about taking my medication. I'm starting to slide again. :/ I'm also starting to fret about med school. I STILL haven't heard any positive responses, and it's worrying me. I really would *like* to know where I'll be in August/September, y'know? I can't even begin to look for places to live yet. :/ I was gonna sign up with the nw host today, krisit, and then I realized that my credit card expires 03/01. D'oh. ;^_^ So until I get a new one ( which might have come today, now that I think about it... ) we'll stick with icestorm. We'll grab genkiland.com on 3/21, sign up with the new host, and then we'll have had an entire month to redirect people. Like I said, this new host offers 1 GB space, 17 GB traffic, for $16.95/mo. It's a very good deal for us, and apparently c-cius and rnm are using it for r.com. I had to write a paper on my grandmother's manic depression for my abnormal psych class, and it was really kind of...well...depressing. My childhood memories of her were mainly of her being really grumpy and bitchy ( which I now can relate to as depression ._. ) but I never thought she was so totally out of it. She just seemed bitchy, not anything more than that. But I asked my dad about it, and turned out that she got institutionalized thrice in the past; once in the fifties when my dad was in grade school, once in the sixties, and once in the seventies. And apparently she never had any contact with the world outside her family. Period. I can only imagine what it was like growing up for my dad. My grandfather took most of the brunt of my grandmother's ups and downs ( when she got down, she'd apparently become delusional - psychotic episodes can be part of bipolar disorder... ) and tried to shield it from the kids ( mostly by upping her lithium meds each time she got too close to the edge? ) but I can't imagine what it must have been like. My dad introverted from a young age to save his sanity, it seems, and took care of the rest of his siblings. Thinking about my parents' lives really sobers me. I have it SO good compared to what they went through. There was the deal with my grandmother for my father...with my mother, she lived a charmed life until about the age of 16, I believe. She was born into a fairly rich Indian family, so her childhood was really fun and cushy. Then, when she was around 16, her father had a stroke, and she took care of him for a year before he died. When he died, apparently they lost his business, and my mother had to try to take over what she could and see what she could run, since her own mother knew nothing aobut it. ( at the age of 17? Christ.) She made sure that her siblings got married and taken care of, and then she went on that exchange trip to Denmark, which must have SUCKED. Students got room and board, and $50 a month. Can you imagine trying to eat on $50 a month? ;;^^ Then she met my dad, and got married, and then he went to Stanford to get his PhD, leaving her behind in Denmark until he could get properly settled. She was pregnant, several thousand miles from home...and with my dad's MOTHER. ;;;^_^ Jesus H. Well, that probably wasn't of much interest to anyone outside my family, but it really creeps me out to think about it. Even when my parents drive me to distraction, I should remember that things could be a lot worse...like how it was for them... My grandmother wrote a LOT when she was on her manic phases. I write a lot too, but it's mostly for my entertainment, not really for public consumption. ( 426 pages, 10 pt, single spaced...ai-ya. O_o ) It's weird how when you're emotionally unbalanced, you get it out in some kind of art. Writing, painting, whatever. That's where you get the 'mad genius' thing from, maybe? I guess the thing that saves my sanity is that I *like* people. I LIKE going out and seeing people. I like having friends and hanging out with them. My grandmother didn't and couldn't. Scary. Gosh, I have some cute/weird sketches I oughta scan in sometime. My pencil wanders during class, looks like. ^^ I truly apologize for the weird blog entry, but I've been working on that paper for three days now, and... I'm gonna work on the march risky layout. :D Now Playing: Cornelius - Chapter 8: Seashore and Horizon BTW, here are the lyrics for 'new music machine.' I know they don't make much sense, but gosh, the song is fun XD

Since my last layout gonna be fux0red until gl is back up again, I just changed it. I kinda like this one; it disturbs me. It's called ' the forest that hears and the field that sees', and it's a sketch made by Hieronymous Bosch around presumably 1480-1500. I'm not sure. The original sketch can be found in the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin. Hieronymous Bosch is just about my favorite medieval artist; his themes and art style are decidedly disturbing. Here's a page where you can find some his works; his most famous one is probably the three-part 'the garden of earthly delights'...or perhaps 'removing the stone of madness' or 'the conjurer.' ( Actually, MTV used 'the conjurer' as one of its commercials ( 'eyecatch' was the word I was thinking of ;;^^ ) back in the 80's, and if you've seen the Metallica video ' Until It Sleeps' - that's HEAVILY Bosch inspired. ) And in my room that weird-ass poster on the wall is a detail from the 'Hell' part of the 'Garden of Earthly Delights' triptych. And now I go home to work on various papers. ;;^^ Now Playing: Modest Mouse - All Nite Diner Monday, February 26, 2001 :: 04:59 p.m. o/~ New music machine, ni sen ichi nen ni... o/~ Cornelius just kicks all kinds of ass. :D ( here's an english fanpage. How can you argue with someone who's alias is from the Planet of the Apes? XD ) If you can, pick up his 1997 album, Fantasma. Supah-sugoi. Well, I also took the Saiyuki manga character selector...

I double-took when I realized that it was in fact a large hawk. I grabbed my camera and took several pictures; it was very blase about the whole deal, and let me get within five feet or so of it. ^^ I think it was a sharp-shinned hawk. I love it when I actually see stuff like this in my neighborhood. Hawks and owls are exceedingly rare, but stuff like opossums are a dime a dozen here. Whoa Jesus. I just took the 'ideal anime man' selector...

Time to end the blog :D Now Playing: Cornelius - Star Fruits Surf Rider Monday, February 26, 2001 :: 09:23 a.m. Son of a BITCH. If you're wondering why there are broken images on this page, well, genkiland's down. Every month, for some unknown reason, we come close to running over our 10 GB of web/ftp traffic. Last month we barely escaped, and this month, I think we got shut off. I really do NOT get it. How on EARTH can we be getting that much traffic? We're considering switching hosts, but it's hard to find a place with 500 MB AND unlimited traffic. If direct linkers are somehow the cause of this, I will KOROSU them. I'm very tired and need a nap. Krisit, I'm looking at hosts. A+ Hosting looks fine. Until Feb 28th, they have some kind of deal where you pay a one-time fee of $160 for lifetime 250 MB hosting. ( and like $25 a year...but it's still cheap. )Take a look at this, Krisit; I was thinking something like the Deluxe package...but it's more expensive than what we're using now. This place would look OK if they offered more than 5 GB of traffic a month. >_< $17.95 for 500 - 1000 MB? Sugoi! But extra GB traffic is $7/GB. Holy crap, krisit, I think I just found our new host. If this checks out ok...unlimited space and traffic for $16.95/mo. O_o Dude, Krisit! O_O Now I hafta figure out how to get all our genkiland.icestorm.com shit redirected. Maybe we could keep genkiland.icestorm.com for one more month just to keep redirecting pages up, and then switch fully over? It's a pain in the ass to have a webpage. Anyways! Here's something that might amuse you. ( heh heh...geek humor...remember how we were laughing our asses off at Perl jokes, gregly and juri? and at 1337 jokes? >D) I have nightmares about this actually happening. Whoa! It's Pander's betrothed! ........... Just look through that site in its entirety. XD Now for my results from the RoV selector:
