It was fun; he read from American Gods for a while, doing all the voices. ( It's amusing to hear him do a big gruff American guy and a high-voiced American girl. XD ) Then he took some questions, and then we stood in line for about 90 minutes to get our books signed. I got a copy of AG and the Dream Hunters signed for myself, and Krisit got a couple books signed for herself, Dom, and Ka-chan. He's a really nice and friendly guy; I feel sorry for him with his hellacious travel schedule. He actually DRIVES places. o.o;; And, FTR, Shadow's name is exactly what Kristi thought it was. ( I guessed the first name easily, and the last name was a one-mention thing in the book that I forgot about.) It's (highlight here) Baldur Moon. He seemed surprised that we had to ask; he thought it was pretty easy. Hut judging from the BBS on his page, it's NOT obvious; Krisit was the first to post her guess. I told him that people don't READ nowadays. ;;^^ And I was going to continue in this happy hyped fashion except my parents were assholes again and now I'm not happy anymore. Dammit, I've been in the house ten minutes. Well, anyways. I'm going to bed. Got a 9:30 am interview tomorrow. I want to be happy again. XD Abby suggested 'Sydney Losstarot' which sounds like a perfectly sane name to ME, but I think she'll object to that too. XD I know the baby's going to be named 'Sandya_____ ' after her dead sister. ( Both her sister and mother were killed in a car crash two, three years ago. Her sister was 21. ) I suggested 'Sandyanatin.' That means 'Dancing at twilight', which would be Siva as Nataraja, the Lord of the Dance. ( No, not like Michael Flatley. That's a scary thought. ) Best I can do; Sandya (dusk) is kind of a girl's name. ;;^^ It's like Sydney and Ashley all over again. " That's a GIRL'S name!" I'm sorry, nothing sends me into an evil joy quite like getting new doujinshi, and discovering that follow the Doujinshi Rule ( "The Cuter The Cover, the Filthier The Contents." ) I got, uh, three slayers DJ. I'm not sure how, but one was a really pretty one about Filia and Xelloss ( no smoochies, thank god. ) and one was an ADORABLE, near-chibi, big-eyed Lina and Xelloss one. The last one was the one overflowing with smut. XD It's essentially 'everyone-loves-Xelloss', with both Gaav and chibi-Philbrizo getting a turn at our poor niko'ing hero, who takes it all in stride. What to do, when you're captured/lent to another Mazoku king? XD And the last story is one with chibi-Gaav, who's adorable, and grown-up Philbrizo, who is so hot that I need to take a minute here to drool. Mmmm, grown-up Phibby. Mmmm-mmm. Finished American Gods. Kristi's right, it IS a good book. I didn't figure out Loki until he spelled it out for me either, but Odin was obvious. And when Odin was talking about the junior partner in his two-man con, I had GUESSED who it used to be, but I didn't guess the ending of the story, y'know? I didn't make the connection. ^^ I really liked it. Then I hunted madly around my room for a really good short mythology book that I used to love - it's 'The Downfall of the Gods', by Villy Sorensen. It's a weird translated retelling of the usual Norse myths, that focuses more on Loki and why he might have done what he did, being half-giant and all...I loved it, but I CAN'T FIND THE DAMN BOOK! Krisit, did I lend it to you? If I could find it, I would toss it at Neil Gaiman and ask him if he read it. ^^ Ka: Oh, right, the little boy who says he has to help Father! XD I know precisely who that is, but I'll let you enjoy the suspense. He may be one of the possibilities you suggested - but then again, he might not! And I'll let you find it out for yourself. I disassembled the Fandango and made a really 1337 sword for killing evil things. XD But now I don't have anything really effective vs. humans. -_-# It's getting really hot here - dripping sweat and feeling nasty all day sort of hot, I mean. I have to mow the lawn, but I think I'll postpone it until, um, later. I don't exactly relish the idea of venturing outside more than I have to. Ka-chan - Kouga Yun wrote 'Earthian.' XD You wanna know something else amusing? She used to date Hajiwara-sensei, the mangaka for Bastard!!, and she supposedly told him, " Make there a bishounen with a tortured past, and girls will read it!" so Hajiwara-sensei then drew Kall-su's tortured past, and readership of Bastard!! became 50/50 male/female. XD Man, I'm tired. I need to go to volunteer and finish reading this book. It's called 'The Whole Shebang', and it should be called 'Astrophysics and Cosmology made FUN!' It's full of the Hubble Constant and dark matter and whatnot, as well as some hideous physics 'raps' that embarrass me to read. It's really fascinating if you're at all into physics and don't mind math and cosmology and stuff. Now Playing: Rammstein - Tier ('Beast') --> Sunday, June 17, 2001 <-- --> 07:09 p.m. <-- Messianic sci-fi, and why I don't like it. Actually, I could argue about that endlessly, but it's more fun to do it in person. The Dune mini-series is on Sci-Fi, and it looks to be a good adaptation from what I caught of it. I DO like Dune, and I've read the first book in the series, but in general, I don't like this messiah-centric genre of sci-fi. Maybe it's just that I don't like the super-self-assured and confident messiahs; it rings false with me when someone is perfectly confident of their actions and they always come out right because it is so foreordained, you know? Uncertainty appeals to me more - or at least interests me more. Unrelenting success is boring. Going to dinner for Father's Day in an hour or so. I've been spending a lot of time with my 6-year-old relative ( cousin's son ) Vikramaditya ( Vikram ) recently. He's visiting with his mom and brother because my male cousin's wife is expecting this month. He calls me 'Chitti' or 'Sitti' ( Ch and S are often interchangeable in Tamil, the native language of my mother's half ) but of course he was born here so he knows only a handful of Indian words, mostly personal titles. ( You know, like what you call your older sister, younger sister, mother, mother's older sister, mother's younger sister, maternal cousins, their wives, their husbands, etc etc. There's a different word for each. ^.- ) But a Chitti is 'mother's younger sister.' In Tamil, you call your cousins 'sister' and 'brother', so technically I guess I AM his mother's 'younger sister.' The last time I saw Vikram he was 3 or 4, so he didn't remember me when he first came here. But now I've become his Chitti and he wants me to come over and play every day. I DO try to! :D Being a gamer, I saw he had a PSX and told him to show me what game he was playing. Of course, he was all *_* ( which I understood; hell, I've been inflicting Vagrant Story on every unfortunate person who enters my house. XD ) and then he played Spyro for an hour, explaining everything and showing me everything, really excited. I really wish I had younger siblings. :( Time to change clothes, I think? Well, I hung out with Krisit yesterday, and we did a lot of fun things, but lemme get to that in a minute. -_- Today I asked my dad to mail off a bunch of my thank-you notes, since he was going out anyways. No, let me back up a bit. I get literally yelled awake at 8 am, since evidently I've slept long enough and I have to give my father his Father's Day gift. Which is the DVD player SITTING ON THE MAIN TABLE. But anyways, I get up, hand him the box, and he immediately says, " You better be able to hook this up." No thanks, no smile, just hook my fscking gift up, because I'm too fscking lazy to read the manual. Or else I'll be pissed off at you. So, dutifully, I do, only to find out that my mom's fancy three-way NTSC/PAL TV is too old and can't be hooked up to the damn DVD player. Doesn't have the right input/output jacks. Of course, this is MY fault as well. Then they decide to return the DVD player. Then I'm told I'm grounded off the phone and compy all day. ( Well, they're both out now. -_- ) So, OK, fine. Then I start cleaning my room, and my dad's going out, and I ask him to mail a few of my thank-you notes. He looks at them, and is like, " This is all wrong. You have to address it to Dr. and Mrs So-and-so, not just the So-and-So's." " Oh. Well, I didn't know that. The only thank-you notes I've seen sent to us have been addressed to 'the Monrads.'" " Well, THAT'S WRONG!" " I didn't know! o.o;;;" " You're TWENTY YEARS OLD! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? NO ONE EVER TOLD *ME* THESE THINGS! ARE YOU GOING TO BE A STUPID LITTLE KID FOREVER?" I've heard somewhere that Masamune swords are supposed to 'drink blood', so naturally, if you stick it through someone - no spraying blood! XD Of course, I heard this on the internet and we all know how reliable that is. XD Whoa. My mom called me and said my dad wanted to talk to me. " Priya, would you know how to hook a DVD player and a VCR player together?" " Sure, given a manual and a few minutes to stare at it."
