Who are these people reading my blog, and why do they return?

It was just another referral-wh0re moment here.

Let's get serious stuff out of the way first. Warning, this is going to be an enormously long blog.

First! Re: Anthrax. In another one of those " Oh, the irony, why didn't I remember this before?" I remembered something I helped my sister do in...uh...1999, IIRC. My sister at the time was doing her medical residency in Saint Louis, and she had to give a presentation to a bunch of bigshots, so she was nervous. The topic of her presentation?

      Biological warfare.
Because it's kind of a weird topic for doctors, and something most doctors don't honestly know much about, it seems. So she called her long-suffering sister to come to Saint Louis and help her research this thing. I took the Greyhound over, and spend a weekend looking up stuff on anthrax and various other diseases that could be used for the purpose of warfare. Hell, if you want to know nasty details about our friends B. anthracis and Y. pestis , I'm probably your h0-in-the-know.

Fun facts: in the days of WWII and the Korean War, the Japanese used live subjects to test the effects of biological weapons. They would infect POWs, and vivisect them to see the effect of whatever disease it was on living tissue. I saw pictures. It was fucking sick. And we apparently endorsed this.

c/p from this page and some of my own notes...

" It is well known that the Japan's post-WW II economic miracle was primarily due to the Korean War. The US military mobilized (and paid for) war-torn Japanese military industries and military officers, many of them convicted war criminals, to a large scal e production of war material needed to equip some one million S Korean troops.
In sharp contrast, little is known about Japan's direct military involvement in the Korean War. The relevant archives are still classified, even after a half century, by US and Japanese governments. The fact is that Japanese troops, sailors, engineers and linguists were in Korea fighting the Communists....The most heinous act of the Japanese was the participation of former officers of the Unit '731' (germ warfare) of the Imperial Army in the Korean War. The Unit '731' of the Kwantung Army conducted secret experiments in germ warfare at Mukden in China du ring World War II. It performed experiments on American, Chinese and Korean war prisoners and dropped germ bombs on a number of Chinese cities.
In 1939 the Japanese army set up a top-secret, germ-warfare research center near Harbin, China where Japanese medical experts experimented to their hearts' content on American, Chinese, Soviet, Korean, British and other war prisoners. Over four thousand were exterminated in bestial fashion: some were frozen infected with bubonic plague, others were injected with syphilis, and many were roasted alive in furnaces. When the Soviets took back Harbin in 1945, the Japanese hid all trace of the base.
The secret would probably have remained buried forever, but a tenacious Japanese journalist dragged out the truth by invoking the Freedom of Information Act in America only recently. Japan's medical profession was rocked by the news that some of its lead ing members had a criminal past which had hitherto escaped detection. Another disturbing angle to the story was the claim that the Americans granted freedom to the perpetrators of these crimes against humanity in return for their research data...It is believed the Unit 731 of the Japanese Imperial Army killed at least 200,000 Chinese soldiers and civilians with germs. The Japanese utilized dissemination methods such barbaric act as giving Chinese children chocolate laced with anthrax and dropping insects and rodents infected with various germs.
War crime historians in America have documented that the Japanese routinely used Chinese, Russian and Korean POWs for medical experiments. The live test subjects were called maruta (''logs of wood'') and were injected with bubonic plague, typhoid, cholera, syphilis and other germs. The prisoners were often dissected alive without anesthesia to see the effect of the diseases on their vital organs.
Many of the 1,500 American soldiers captured in the Philippines were taken to Mukden, Manchuria. Captured Americans, along with several hundred British and Australian soldiers, were met in Mukden on Nov. 11, 1942, by a team of Japanese medical personnel wearing masks. They sprayed liquid into the prisoners' faces and gave them injections.
By the end of the winter, about 250 Americans had died, and their bodies were stacked like cordwood. When spring came, the surviving prisoners were ordered to work with a Japanese medical team, picking up the half-thawed bodies.
The prisoners were told to dump some bodies in a mass grave and take others, identified by tags on their toes, to a dissection table. A medical team dissected the bodies and placed their vital organs in wooden boxes, clearly labeled with POW numbers. La ter, the medical team returned to Mukden to measure various parts of the prisoners' anatomies with calipers. The team photographed each POW.
Gen. MacArthur's CIC agents, commanded by Col. Philip Bethune, not only covered up war crimes against Americans, but also aggressively protected the architect of those crimes, Lt. Gen. Shiro Ishii. Under Gen. MacArthur's protection, the Japanese germ-war fare researchers became some of Japan's most prominent citizens -- university presidents, heads of medical centers. Lt. Col. Ryoichi Naito, Ishii's right-hand man, founded Green Cross, one of Japan's top pharmaceutical companies. Other Unit 731 leaders joined him there.
On April 18, 1947, Gen. MacArthur's headquarters issued an order - "Every step, interrogation, or contact must be coordinated with this section, The utmost secrecy is essential in order to protect the interests of the United States and to guard against embarrassment."
The documents showed that U.S. military planners had worried that the Soviet Union was far more advanced than the United States in developing biological warfare. U.S. military leaders felt that the Japanese tests -- however horrific -- were invaluable be cause they involved human experimentation that would never be allowed in the United States...
During 1953, several American journalists claimed that MacArthur used an array of germ warfare weapons against North Korea. They claimed that there were releases of feathers infected with anthrax, fleas and mosquitoes dosed with Plague and Yellow Fever, and rodents infected with a variety of diseases. These were precisely the same techniques used by the Japanese in China. The Eisenhower administration later pressed Sedition Charges against three Americans who published charges of these activities. However, none of those charged were convicted..."

I think that's enough fun reading material for now, right?

Uh, what else. Oh, today's passage of the antiterrorist bill by the Senate really made me stop and stare at the screen, and then frown. ( Yes, I actually read CNN.com multiple times a day at work; I just am really bad about blogging my thoughts on current events. I'm trying this time, though.) I really respect Senator Feingold for trying to remind people to actually think about what they were about to approve of, but hell, what to do. Everyone's kneejerk reaction seems to be "if it's against terrorism, it's always good, and it can't be abused" or something. I'm NOT being a commie pinko leftist like Krisit this time...I was reading the provisions and some of them made me slightly worried.

" Allows the federal government to detain non-U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism for up to seven days without specific charges. The administration originally wanted to hold them indefinitely. "

Doesn't that worry anyone else just a bit? If we add 'suspected of terrorism' and 'without specific charges', doesn't that totally lend itself to abuse? Hell, both my parents are non-U.S. citizens. They're legal aliens, but everytime my mom comes back from South India, she keeps getting detained while my father ( who's Danish) and myself ( the only U.S. citizen in my family - my sister's Danish) walk straight through. The thing is, there's a particularly vicious and violent group of rebels/terrorists in Sri Lanka. Which most people haven't really heard of, I bet, but hell, I know a bunch of people, friends of the family, who died 'of heart attacks' when it was infact "lead poisoning", to quote old pulp fiction. Anyways, my mother, being from that part of the world, holding an Indian passport, being Tamil ( the rebels are the Tamil Tigers), and having an extremely typical name for that ethnic group (Sivabakiam Govindaraj), always gets held back. No matter what country we go to. And the Tamils are notorious for their suicide bombers - if you remember Rajiv Gandhi, the prime minister of India who got blown to bits a few years ago when a woman with plastic explosives strapped to herself came up to him to garland him? Those are my people, it seems. So my mother would seem highly suspicious, and under the provisions of this bill, if they suspected her, they could detain her for seven days without formal charges? Is that the idea? And they'd originally meant to make this 'detained indefinitely?'

I'm not saying my mom's going to be detained, sheesh. I'm just giving an example of how it could be abused. Lifting all the restraints on law enforcement is both beneficial and really rather scary. I know that it will probably do us good in the future, but it's not 100% good. Thank god these measures expire in two years, if I'm remembering correctly.

I hate trying to blog about serious stuff. I'm never sure if I'm coming across coherently, and I'm always wondering if there's something I'm forgetting or don't know that would change my opinion. But I *do* really enjoy discussing politics and history. O_O

Anyways, back to the silly stuff.

Joy, Berserk is definitely worth watching. It's not really the cliffhanger type all the time - "OMG!!! he just walked in on her kissing his best friend! is he going to explode??" - that kind of cliffhanger, but it's heavily plot-driven, dakr, violent, and is interesting in that it's...circular. You start out seeing Gatts, who is fucked up. Then you wonder, gee, why is he so fucked up? The anime answers the question by telling his past, and you end up back at the beginning, with Gatts being fucked up. I think that's interesting. Plus there are a bunch of strong characters, and it's seiyuu-tastic. But be prepared to hug a pillow when you're watching the last volume. ;;^_^

Of course I see Shuuei x Kouryuu. Hell, does the mangaka HAVE to have the suggestive picture of the two of them at the end of volume 2 or 3, whichever it was? Yes, Shuuei is always prancing about without a shirt, and he's always got his arm around Kouryuu, who we all know is REALLY into the touchy-feely friendship stuff. ^.- [/sarcasm] :DD I read an interesting fic about their relationship recently...oh, hell, where was it...it was on ff.net somewhere. I'll find it later. And yes, Sanzou as a girl SHOULD make you cry. Actually, if Sanzou were actually a female character...I can't decide if I'd hate her with a passion or think she was awesome for being such a bitchy pain in the ass. *scratches head*

Dude, you hate Chihaya too, and were shocked!! to find out his seiyuu? XD You seem to judge series the way I do - " does the seiyuu-age make me want to cling to the TV?" Chihaya doesn't deserve Kagetsuya, that's for sure. He just wants to chase after that nasally guy who screams, " CHIHAAAaAyyaAAAa!" And he told Kagetsuya *he had a headache.* What the hell? Ah...I haven't watched Earthian in so long. I should rewatch it.

I musta given that book for Tay to skim through before she moved out of C-U, what, two years ago? Scary scary. Well, I knew you'd like it - *I* love that book, that's why I lend it to everyone in sight. If I collect my two copies back I'm going to follow up on the promise/threat I made Neil Gaiman and mail him the spare copy. Augh! Tay, you've been converted to the Dark Side of Initial D! :D I knew it would happen one day, oh yes. That show, besides being a fighting anime ( except with cars and drag races instead of a basketball game or a fighting tournament) and a major yaoi-fest, is seiyuu-heaven. unF. Just imagine Kazu-chan's reaction. " I get to be Take-papa's little brother? OH HO HO! XD "

Shit, when I'm less brain-dead I'm going to try to find that paper I did last year for my Immigrant families in America. My project was to interview about a dozen Muslim-American college girls about their backgrounds and their views. It turned out to be really interesting; they came from a bunch of different countries, some were first-gen, some were second-gen, some wore the burqa, some didn't...hell, sometimes it differed between siblings. Some visited the mosque regularly, some didn't...it was a really interesting study, turns out, and I had fun interviewing these girls. It turns out that the Muslim Students Association serves the same purpose as the Greek system, really. It's a transitional group, a home away from home, a new 'family'...and if everyone prays six times a day and wears the burqa, well, hell, if you want the social aspect, you do what you have to to fit in.

    Fuck, I can't find it.

Well, I remember that the girls had really different views on what the burqa meant to them. For some it was just a cultural tradition, something they grew up doing, and now that they were in a group of people who also did it, they kept doing it. For others, it was a means of establishing their identity. I clearly remember one girl telling me that she did it so people wouldn't judge her by her looks, but by the content of her character, or something like that. That's what the burqa meant to her personally. She was an interesting person; she said she didn't believe in prostelytizing, because until she herself was a perfect Muslim, she thought it would be hypocritical to try to convert anyone else. It's definitely possible to be strongly religious and to be really cool, as I saw in this girl.

Ah, hell, I wish I could find this paper. It was basically about religion's social functions. Fuck.

Oh, yeah, uh.......male-preg. Actually, what I meant, Joy, was that people write fics about guys becoming pregnant. Not guys turning into girls and becoming pregnant - well, they do that too, actually. But guys, physiological guys, becoming pregnant through anal sex. Sheesh. These must be the girls who ask if they can become pregnant through oral sex. :P

Hahahahaha, Charmian, I'd read a Tsuzuki-getting-pregnant fic XD I think they're FUNNY fics, it's just when people try to make it a serious subject for a fic than I facefault massively. :D I'm not going to hunt you down and shoot you. Really. XD I prefer blunt trauma to...um...yeah, as I was saying...for a FUNNY male-pregnancy fic, go here. Yeah, I read Sith Academy. You should too. ^.- go up two directories for the index page.

    Joy, Gravitation seems empty and tasty and highly addictive XD I should watch that. Ew, dead Stoner-sama...ahem, Koumyou Sanzou Houshi-sama? And Shuuei? Well, Shuuei was definitely H'ing at Kouryuu in canon, so that's pretty much a given. I still haven't sene past episode 23 or so of Saiyuki T_T Dammit, I haven't even seen Homura-tachi!     " damn, I remember that point in my life when stabbing westward spoke to something deep within me ^^;

I think we all have that kind of memory, Ka-chan. ;;^_^

    Updated my blog links.

Katie says that the Boogiepop sounds like an Avon lady. Nooooooo! OK, the suitcase full of Boogiepop power...and the lipstick...well...but noooo!

Joy, my Sanzou doujinshi need to hide at the bottom of my pile too. Mostly because they're either Shuuei/Kouryuu, or...well, those nasty monks! Bad monks! But there are some funny bits, such as when Gojyo tries to molest0r Sanzou in the bath for the hell of it, Sanzou's rather irritatedly fighting him off, and then Hakkai and Gokuu walk in, wondering what's taking them so long, and catch Gojyo reaching for Sanzou, and Sanzou holding him off with a hand in Gojyo's face. Of course, Hakkai is all " Ara, maa! n_n " but Gokuu stares at them, and gets all big-eyed. " Sanzou...will you make me a man? *_*" *cue a fan-slapping out of the bath*

I dunno, I think Sanzou/Gokuu is pretty cute. 58 is too obvious, too *there*, to be really interesting to me. The only interesting fics I think you could glean out of that pairing are rather domestic-y ones or the slightly angsty ones, like the ones Jeanne writes. ( Although the bit about Hakkai wanting to be uke because he wants to put himself in Kanan's place always made me O_o;;;;; ) But then you have Monk With Issues and Monkeyboy Who Adores Him. That's why one particular Jeannefic - when Sanzou finally snaps and rap0rs Gokuu and to make up for it, lets Gokuu unF him - made me puzzled. Because it's been proven time and time again that they'd, like, gnaw off their own arms rather than hurt each other. If Sanzou got so pissed off and stressed out that he reached his breaking point, his reaction would be to storm off and *leave* the group, ostensibly forever, not to reach out and touch someone, to quote AT&T ;;^_^ Sanzou's reaction to stress is " Fuck off, I don't need this shit, I don't need YOU, I'm leaving." He's odd that way. Anyone else wound as tight as Sanzou I could see reacting to repression and stress with violence directed towards one of the sources of his tension, but not Sanzou, just because of the peculiar kinks of his Issues. Am I making any sense? Probably not.

Anyways, to point out a Sanzou and Gokuu fic I thought was really damn cute: space between . Darnit, it's cute!

Which brings me - somehow - to the topic of male-preg fics. I know, I know, to each their own kink - but I have never understood the appeal of making one of the guys in a yaoi or slashfic pregnant. Nevernever. I guess the idea is so that you can either write gooey, cloyingly cute fics about this pregnant guy staggering around with a big belly, getting lots of wubbles from his adoring seme, and picking out booties and deciding on names or shit...or the other kind of pregfic, where you deal with issues like abortion and being stigmatized and shit. C'mon, it's retarded. Where are the yuri fics with one of the girls suffering from erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation??

    What's that you say?
    Girls don't have dicks?
WELL, GUYS DON'T HAVE UTERI! THEY CAN'T GET PREGNANT!

Even when you someone manage to swing it - the uke is an alien or not human somehow, like the pregnant-Kurama or pregnant-Obi-Wan fics *shudder* - I don't see what purpose it serves. Can't you develop the relationship between two guys without straying into the realms of the ridiculous? Male pregnancy fics seem to suffer badly from the gender role stereotyping problem. 'One of the two guys has to be the GIRL in the relationship! So one of them has to cry a lot, cook dinner, drink tea, be reluctant about sex, and have babies.'

Why is there so much tea-drinking by the uke in slashfic, too? Is tea 'girlier' than coffee or something? o.o; More 'sensitive' a drink? Give me a really strong pot of tea, and I'll show you sensitive. Jedi Drink Tea. Always. :PPPP

I guess guys in slashfics tend to pick up these annoyingly girly traits because it's a way for the writer to a) ID with them better, or b) the writers write what they know. I've NEVER seen a guy act in the ways the guys are written in 80% of slashfics. And the uber-feminizing of certain admittedly girly men, like Count D from Petshop of Horrors? Please, someone shoot me now. OK, so he wears dresses and has long painted nails and screams and throws hissy fits...but this is also the character that threw two men to the lions, literally, when they broke into his shop. And stood there in front of the locked door with a little smirk. Who knowingly sentences people to death with his pets. He's not a girl. He can't get pregnant, nor is he likely to cry and simper over Leon. Nor is he a fragile china doll. He gets shot repeatedly in the series, and it hurts him, but he heals incredibly fast, and he can slug Leon hard enough to give him a black eye, as he proves in volume 10. o.o; Why why WHY do people make him out to be this refined princessly lady? T_T

    Ahhh, that felt good. Mmmm.

I worked 12 hours today, and am going to work 26 hours over the next two days. *sigh*

    I really need sugar now.

Who was it who wondered if anyone had seen Berserk? I have! And I really liked it! It's dark and violent, true, but it has a PLOT, an interesting one, which is more than I can say for a lot of sweetness-and-light shoujo stuff. ;;^_^ And the last volume gave me fricking nightmares. I loved it. Oh, it was Sabina who mentioned Berserk.

The world is full of mistake.

That's the blurb in Engrish on the back of the Boogiepop wa Warawanai manga #1. I don't know if they were being deliberately ironic, or if this was typical Engrish. XD

Today I got lots of new toys! I got about two hours of sleep, so the entire day was exceptionally hellish. When I came home, there were two packages in my mailbox, and a delivery notice. I squealed in joy and ran upstairs to tear open my new packages.

Package one contained my missing KOF DJ anthology, Aka 1. I've been waiting for this puppy forever. What makes it totally worth it to me was the nice long story drawn by Kidaka Yuuki , who I believe draws the most adorable Kyo and Iori ever. XD I mean, the circle that did Kuro-chan and Shiro-chan is adorable too, but damn! Even her sex secenes are really pretty and non-explicit. ( I'd rate that PG-13. If that much.) Anyways, this anthology had a nice long non-smutty story by Kidaka Yuuki, and random smuttiness, such as the catboy-curse which can only be cured by mad sex0r. And the one about Iori giving Kyo his ring ( before they have mad sex0r.) And the one angular story that reminds me of Bronze with evil abusive Kyo molest0ring poor Iori who's, you know, dying of Orochi manliness or whatever it is. And the one about Kyo picking a fight with Iori to fake his own death at Iori's hands to freak him out before Kyo magically reappears from the dead and they have mad sex0r. But the Kidaka Yuuki story was soooo cute!

Package 2: Boogiepop wa Warawanai #1 (Ogata Kouji / someone) and Boogiepop Dual #1 (Takano Masayuki / Kadono Kouhei). Mmm-mmm, boogiepop manga. I THINK thus far I prefer Boogiepop Dual, but we'll see. It's about this...well, he seems pretty normal, but on the geeky side - boy, and there's weird goings-on in his school, and one of his teachers hands him a suitcase with the power of the Boogiepop inside - she was the previous boogiepop - and he becomes the Boogiepop and does many, many cool things. When he's the Boogiepop, he looks really cool and wears lipstick, because apparently you have to wear lipstick to be the Boogiepop. And the Boogiepop can catch people who have jumped off the roof. He's, like, just hanging out all normally, then poof, he spontaneously turns into the boogiepop, jumps out the school window, and catches the girl falling by. He grabs the falling curtains, swings back against the school, and drops inside the lower set of windows. Oh, and he takes a pair of scissors through the hand without blinking, but when he transforms back, " FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!! THAT HURTS!!"

The other Boogiepop manga is OK, but the Dual one grabs me more.

I also got my PS2, eight games, and proceeded to para-para/tekken tag tournament my evening away.

    You're sick, Juri.

Wow, Vib Ribbon made a good impression on people! XD

Krisit, I had a Hiko/Saitou DJ, I just sold the puppy off. It was a comedy, too.

Speaking of which, Kya, Ka, and anyone with Kuro 1 Anthology, I have been a very naughty girl. I saw a Yami no Matsuei DJ, and the art looked familiar. " Hey, it looks like the work of a DJka from one of the Kuro/Aka anthologies. Let's buy it." I do so, and then look up exactly which artist it was. It's Azusa Miwa, who did "Lost Memory" in Kuro 1. The art's really cute, but...the things she does to poor Kyo...and this YnM DJ is Muraki/Tsuzuki. Let's all pray for Tsuzuki's behymen right now, and hope that Muraki isn't as into clawing and handcuffing as Iori is. Hell, he's probably worse. Poor Tsuzuki! ;;^_^ This DJka is really into H/C stuff.

Joy, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Sanzou-worshipping. XD As long as you don't make him cry, don't make him nice, and realize he's a surly, snarly little bastard. Isn't he great? XDDDD I have a couple of Sanzou-centric doujinshi, and, amazingly enough, a Saiyuki doujinshi based on the 'Journey to the West' videogame. It has the more monkey-like Gokuu, the mild-mannered ultra-nice priest Sanzou, the fugly-ass water demon Sandy - Sha Gojyo - and the bloated Pigsy - uh, Cho Hakkai. It's very very mild Gokuu/Sanzou ( with their original personalities, that's the only way it could go ) and it's SO EFFING ADORABLE. It's one of the gems of my evil collection. See Gokuu blush/scowl/growling because Sanzou's so sweet. @_@

What the hell was I gonna say? Oh, hell, I dunno. I need sleep. Now. Oh, wait, first amusing referrers:
    • rock excel search - What?
    • tenjou tenge - I'm working on the page, Goshuujin, give me time! ;;^_^ ( Yes, I found out who made this query - last night on IRC, Genri-goshuujin said he'd gotten into this new manga, Tenjou Tenge, but the only page he could find on google was some 'kotenken' blog. Priya: That's kokutenko, goshuujin-sama, and that was me. ;;^_^ Genri: Make a Ten^2 peeji, and I'll forgive you for the contents of your doujinshi collection.)
    • All of which makes me anxious ...at times, unbearably so. That quote's from Double Bass, by the Gorillaz.

    • odd things - well, you're at the right place for THAT.

    • cowboy bebop ost mp3s rain and cowgirl ed ost - I do indeed have those. How much are they worth to ya, eh? ^.-

    • open market - what? I'm not FREE, I'm just really cheap!
    • depeche mode keychain - do those exist? Noooo! I had just reached my depeche mode saturation limit!

When Beelzebub is sweatraining at your actions, you must have done something REALLY spectacular. XD

On Saturday, Juri dropped off Bastard!! volumes 18, 19, and 21, Tenjou Tenge 5, and Big-O 5. I've been 'reading' them....slowly...and Bastard!! especially cracks me up. I don't know if I want to giggle or smack sensei for drawing the events at the beginning of volume 21. Juri, you have never read the CONTENTS of a bastard!! volume if you think the cover of 18 is pornographic. XD

OK, scary, my Dilandau skin came up for Ween's "Voodoo Lady."

Anyways, whether or not you can handle reading the Bastard!! manga, you can't deny that the man has 1337 drawing skill0rZ. You can get a fucking MODEL of the form of Darshu shown in the second scan; I saw it in town and nearly humped the box. Well, next time I have $30 to spend on a cool figure...

And I just found Akahori Satoru's webupeeji. Is there anything that this guy HASN'T done?
    • Lamune & 40 Series
    • KO Seiki Beast <-- I have been looking for a manga for this series for soooo long! But it's only a novel. Dammit. ;_;

" For Wild Guys and Cutie Gals!! Get Into The Eurobeat Ecstasy & Fire The Hi-Tension Vibe!! Super Bass Sound Will Make You The Prisoner of Dance!!"

Yes, that's actually what it says on the cover of the Para Para Paradise game. I am the Prisoner of Engrish, actually. My PS2 hasn't arrived yet, but hopefully it will on Monday; now that I have the PPP game and sensors, I can...

Hey, I just realized that Vib Ribbon will run on my new JP PS2 XDDDDDD

Anyways, it's been an extremely busy weekend, so this ought to be a long blog if I don't leave shit out.

    But first, blog replies:

Joy, thanks! :DD And I agree with you over Saiyuki Gaiden vs. Saiyuki. I've looked at some of Minekura-sensei's other works, but I'm not as knowledgeable(?!) about them as I am about Saiyuki, so I'll just comment on those. I think Tenpou, Kenren, and Gokuu are more.....interesting...I guess, in the Gaiden than in the main series...but Konzen, as much as I like him, perplexes me. At least we know why Sanzou has a perpetual bug up his ass...but why is Konzen such a cranky bitch? He was born that way? :D ( Oh, and I like Sanzou the best out of the group, and I sort of understand why he does what he does - but he needs a good bitchslapping half of the time. :D His Issues have Issues. Same as the rest of them.) Gokuu is so sweet in the Gaiden - I guess it's just refreshing to see someone who's open and honest and happy and shit in Saiyuki, you know? I think that's a large part of his appeal; everyone else has layers upon layers of masks and hidden hurts and angsties and stuff, and they're really good at not saying what they're feeling, but Gokuu isn't emotionally constipated, so he's a nice foil for the other characters. Ugh, am I making any sense?

Dammit, woman, add me to the gamergirl blogring :D I helped you write the test! :D And I know Akira is ugly, but hell, I think Initial D is fugly as hell, and I'll still watch it XD And if you don't like Tetsuo , you must HATE K9999 ( say it with me, kids: Kay-four-nine!) and his character design. How will you play KOF 2001 when it comes out? ^.- ( Yeah, for those who don't play the King of Fighters games, the next game - which is unreleased - has this character K9999. Compare the two linked pictures, and realize that they also hire Tetsuo's seiyuu - Sasaki Nozomu - to do K9999's voice. XD Heh heh. I was XD when I heard that he was signed on to do the next game. Sasaki Nozomu is the cheese in my mozarella stick. XDDD For fellow seiyuu-whores, the KOF series is pretty good; it has Koyasu Takehito as Kyo-fanboy Shingo, and now Sasaki-kun for K9999 and Kawakami Tomoko as Mei-li the Korean Hero Fangirl.

And yes, you should all read the Hameln manga. It's really good.

W2 : Thanks for writing up that eulogy for your friend, and for sharing what you could about her. She sounds like she was a wonderful person, and looking through her page made me feel really strange. It's like stepping into someone's room, and the sheets are all wrinkled and the covers are thrown back, and you expect the occupant of the room to return, because this room is lived-in....and you know that they won't. I'm sorry you lost a friend. ( I guess I'm getting a touch John Donne on y'all. :/ )

Uh...shit, I forget who else I needed to reply to. Watch for further updates. @_@

Well, my weekend was Fun and Exciting. Krisit dropped by Friday night, and we went up to Best Buy in a mad hunt for the right cables to hook up all my new electronics. XD So we did that, hooked up stuff, goofed off, the works. Saw the very last volume of Hameln no Baiorin-hiki subbed. When Matt got in town, he called me and we both went to dinner/whatever with him and a bunch of other 1337 people. It was one of our usual traumatizing get-togethers. :D Went to bed around 4 am.

Saturday morning the alarm rang at 9:15 am; I had to make up time for taking a day off on Thursday. So I went in to work for a few hours, got work done, my boss fed me, and so on. I got back at around 1 pm, and Krisit and I hung out for a while until about 3 pm, when I showed up at the JAC blowout. They were showing the X OVA, which I hadn't seen, and the Utena movie, which I had seen once and wouldn't mind re-seeing.

The X OVA.... unless you're really really desperate for X, don't even bother. It's really pretty, but it's essentially " X! The Greatest Hits!" They tell the story from Kakyou's perspective, and give about twenty quick glimpses of all the bits of future that he can see in his dreams - essentially, 30-second summaries for the storylines for every character. It's just a manga ad that they make you pay money for. ^.- And at the end, because they realize that they didn't really tell a story other than the one about Kakyou and Hokuto, and that they just flashed a bunch of random plot points by you without explaining them, they give mugshots of the dozen other characters they introduced. " Shiro Kamui. Monou Fuuma. Sumeragi Subaru. etc etc." Don't buy it.....unless you're a really desperate CLAMP fangirl.

The Utena movie was the Utena movie...it Broke half of the club who HAD seen the TV series, and Broke the other half who hadn't seen the TV series. Yeesh. That wanker Movie-Akio. MY keys!!! my keeeys!

And afterwards there was Puu-ket or Puu-con or SaPuurakon, as I've heard it referred to - namely, me trying to see how many people I can stuff into my apartment. I think I managed...uhm...ten or eleven people. Which is a lot, really, to fit in one living room ;;^_^ We played much Vib Ribbon, and Krisit and I battled it out on Capcom vs. SNK 2. XD

NOOO! NOOO, VIBRI, DON'T CRY! I LOVE YOU, SWEET CRACK BUNNY! DON'T VIOLATE ME! JUMP *OVER* THE SQUIGGLE!

Trust me, if you ever play Vib Ribbon, that scream of anguish will make sense. ;;^_^

After everyone left at midnight, Krisit and I gamed for a while. A long while. At 4 am, my h0 Kya-chan called from Japan, and we were so happy! :D We had a very nice looooong talk ( until about 5:15 am or so ) during which we decided that I was P' (PuuDASHU) and she was Kyakishima, and that I was Shinkouhyou to her Bunchuu. We've got our weird reversible seme-uke mind-meld worked out XD So we got a lot of good talking done, and next time, give me YOUR number, Kya, so that I can call you! I don't want you to have to spend the money all the time! Kya, Krisit and I were glad you called :DD it was hella 1337!

And...well, at 7 am we both crashed. ( After hooking up my Super Nintendo and getting our 16-bit Zelda freak on. Mmmm, I love those tiny pixellated bishounen.)

Then, uh, my mom called at 10:30 am to remind me that I needed to teach the children's mythology class today. " Can't you teach it? It's YOUR class." " No, get over here."" Unghhhh..." Sorry, Matt, but I had a class to teach :/ Otherwise I would have joined you all for lunch as usual! So I taught mythology to small children for 90 minutes, and I got hoarse again. I swear, I talk myself out of a voice every weekend. This particular myth - the ancient Indian epic The Ramayana took me over six hours total to relate, and that's leaving a while SHITLOAD of details out. Scarily enough, I did all this off-the-cuff; I have it memorized. Didn't need to prep or re-read. But it was so much fun! This epic was orally transmitted anyways in the days before it was transcribed into Sanskrit, Hindi, and Tamil.

And now I REALLY need to catch up on my sleep. Jesus.

    Video-game thumb hurts X_x

Been hammering away at KOF '99 for several hours. Ouch. I haven't had videogame thumb in years.

Dude, Joy, if you'd make me copies of the GTO dorama, I'd worship you forever.

Wow, it's just really weird to see your name everywhere, Tay. I just remember the wack-ass time we had hanging out two years ago. Was it really two years ago? Jeez. We must have done more weird shit together than I've done with anyone else except for maybe krisit, such as the 3 am joyride up to Chicago to see Nerrie and Rence around Christmas. :D I miss ya, h0! Come back to IL once in a while!

My lip is bleeding and I need sugar.

I really *am* working on my Tenjou Tenge page. The thing that slows me up the most is the transration, and my transration-h0 is in Japan for the next year. T_T Seriously, if you like strong, ass-kicking female characters ( and strong male characters ) and you like fighting manga like FoR and YYH, you'd probably like Tenjou Tenge. It's by the character designer of Himikoden, so the art's lovely, and I'm just amazed that I like the main female character and main male character. Mostly because that for all her bounce-factor, the main female character is the head of a dojo, and when she's mad at you, she can turn SD and kick your ass with a broken-off-branch. ( As in, send you into the ground and make a crater...THAT kind of ass-kicking.) It's worth looking for; only 6 volumes out so far.

Hopefully I'll have a copy of the Bebop movie by Saturday or so. w00t!

" Does it hurt when I do this? *poke, poke*" " OW! " " Cool!"

Having a doctor for a sister and brother-in-law gets...Special sometimes. She pounced on me, poked and prodded, and promptly concluded that I probably have fibromyalgia in addition to, or instead of, JRA. Well, damn.

The irony is that I did a semester-long paper on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which is a related syndrome, and my thought was, " What a bunch of wusses. ;;^_^"

I'm not tired, I just hurt! Yeah, that's it! @_@

Amusingly enough, one of the meds that's used to treat fibromyalgia is called Soma. *snicker* Now I have a couple of long names to explain why I hurt when you poke me, but, uh, doesn't change a damn thing. :D My dance is STILL like sunshine on a cloudy day! O_O

    Or not. ;;;^_^ XD

What sucks is that there's not a lot I can do about this. ;;^_^ Some five years ago, they tried to enroll me in aquatic therapy for my joints, because they figured I was enfeebled like elderly arthritis patients - but I didn't have any muscular wasting. o.o; Doing ten leglifts in the water doesn't really do much if you can swim ten laps o.o; I can pop a lot of anti-inflammatories and hope not to be terribly stiff every day. ;^_^ It makes a lot of sense, though! The weird bits of my life can be reduced to a serotonin deficiency! :D

" It makes me real pissed off, it makes me wanna scream " FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!"

That song makes me burst out laughing each time I hear it. Ben Folds is pretty damn funny. Then again, I also burst out laughing whenever I hear Depeche Mode's "Somebody," but I think that's unintentionally funny.

Gregly - I know this layout is murder on dialup, but I couldn't do much to it without the image getting all fucked up and having JPG artifacts and whatnot. Oh well. XD

Matt - I go to sleep at 4 am. There is no such thing as "too late" for me. ^^ Did I give you my number? Call when you get into town.

*huge, huge yawn* Apparently my Vib Ribbon was shipped on September 25th. That's a little over a week ago. Dammit, mail delivery is so slow on campus. When I lived off-campus, I could get shit from Japan in five days. I think I'm expecting my PS2, some manga, Vib Ribbon, and possibly Kya-chan's pr0n care-package, if she mailed one. I totally understand what you mean about the fun of having something always coming in the mail, Gregly. ;;^_^

Dammit, my credit card bill sucks for this month. My parents can't operate a computer, or so they claim, so they got me to order about $150 worth of flowers from 1800flowers.com for my sister and charge it to my own credit card. ( If you know the reason why, well, my sister deserves the flowers, but ack.) Add that to my normal expenses - food, gas, medicine, whatnot - and my credit card bill is $250 this month. >_< I can pay it, but hell!

Thank god I get paid tomorrow. I'm gonna dump that puppy in my checking account. Gregly, I'll write you a check for what I owe j00 two, but can you cash it on Monday? I only get to the bank at around 5 pm on Fridays, so the money I deposit doesn't show up until the next business day, or whatever. The check won't bounce, but it might drop me below my $700 limit by a few dollars, and then they'll charge me money >_@

I better clean up sometime; I think my sister and her husband want to see my new apaato. I need to find a place to stash the effing TV box. It's so huge it won't fit anywhere.

Wow, I think I broke Chi . XD She wanted to know who Christian Bale was when I sorted him into my pants. So I showed her that picture, and muttered vague things about American Psycho and Velvet Goldmine, and...

A bunch of people have been saying that they feel shallow about only babbling about their lives in their blogs instead of, I dunno, the world at large. We as a society seem to have a weird view of the importance of people's personal lives. If you talk about it, you're being self-absorbed. But then again, what's the first thing we talk about when we're discussing the NYC firefighters or the passengers on the planes, if we must be grim? " They were normal human people with families and lives...look, this is Pookie, so-and-so's favorite teddybear..."

    So when it is self-absorbed to talk about personal concerns, and when is it not? o.o;

I dunno; my blog is part diary, part discussion board for me. I don't know anything better than my own life and what interests me - but I try to throw out things that I could discuss with any reader. But, of course, a large part of a blog is going to be details about what the blogger ate for breakfast or something like that. And you know what? That's OK.

I'm much better at discussing serious shit in person with someone; it's harder for me to have a discussion without the immediate back-and-forth trading of points. Blogging about serious shit is like posting your senior thesis on a bulletin board and going away, hoping that someone will walk by, read it, and then write up a lengthy reply and pin it to the board next to yours for you to read.

I called in to work today; I was beginning to feel a bit run-down. I'll be better by tomorrow, I just REALLY needed the R&R. I work on Sundays too, so I was like, fuck it, I want one day off work to myself. Saturdays are always application day/JAC day, so I don't get the luxury of sleeping until noon.

I'm going to use this downtime to clean and pay my bills. :P

I don't know why people *want* to grow up and be more mature; it's rather tedious, after all. Finances, life insurance, delayed gratification, prioritizing your needs over your wants, etc etc. Then again, there is a certain pleasure in having your shit together and knowing that you yourself are the one who holds down a job, paid your bills on time, have money in savings, *and* can buy yourself things once in a while, all without screwing up. Although it was easier to get my parents to buy me shit when I wanted it, I suppose it's much better this way. I know when my parents see my new TV, they'll complain that I should have waited until Christmas when they would have bought me one, but no, it was my money, so I selected one that I wanted and could afford. I no longer want them to buy me expensive shit if I can get it myself.

Was that enough retarded philosophizing for one blog? :P

Let's get back to the basics. Yaoi, yaoi yaoi yaoi. :P Actually, no, my Para Para Paradise will be coming with Juri, so when my PS2 gets here, my apaato will truly be a den of smut, dancing games, and evil. It is all good.

Sometimes I still wish that I played violin. I wasn't impressively good at it, but I had six years of lessons under my belt and could play second violin parts for the songs we played without much problem. Hell, it was through my classes that I learned to love shit like Schubert's Unfinished Symphony in E Minor, as well as know how to play more Lloyd Webber than I really should. ( IIRC, the first note in the Phantom of the Opera theme is...*walks fingers up an imaginary fingerboard* B-sharp? On the E-string? I can't quite remember - it was fourth-finger, but past B.) But I had to stop when I couldn't fit it in with my high school classes - and anyways, if I had to start all over again, I think I'd take the cello.

Sheesh, I'm rambling. OK, that's enough for now.

" Because there's a conflict in every human heart between the rational and the irrational, between good and evil. The good does not always triumph. Sometimes the dark side overcomes what Lincoln called the better angels of our nature."

Wow, it's been a busy couple of days.

Hm, well, I went to see Apocalypse Now Redux in the theater last night. I hadn't seen AN since I was really small, and I hadn't understood it. Needless to say, it made a hell of a bigger impression on me now. Copolla may be a freak, but I effing LOVE that movie. I was big-eyed and sparkling when I came out of the theater, and my parents commented that perhaps they need to take me to something more calming the next time we went out. XD I know a lot of people don't like heavy, visceral movies like that, but hell, you're really missing out. If a movie can't make your heart pound and your brain feel muddy...it was so creepy to see everyone moving in and out of the shadows, where all you can hear is a voice, and all you can see sometimes is an eye, or the light striking the line of a cheek...

I've been working at my current job for three months, so now I'm eligible for life insurance and health insurance. To the tune of $60 a month. @_@ I only make $1200 a month, so I was squirming a bit. Then it turned out that, amazingly, I can still be covered by my parents' insurance, so I didn't have to pay for it after all!

To celebrate my, uh, savings, I went out and bought myself a freaking ENORMOUS TV. This is my first major appliance that I've bought with my own money, and I'm really happy with it. It's a 27" JVC, and it cost just a touch under $300 before taxes. Problem was, I live on the second floor....getting the TV to my apartment was Fun and Amusing, especially since the box was so big that I couldn't get my arms around it or under it to lift it ;;^^ But I managed somehow, and now it's sitting there, hooked up to my stereo, VCR, and PSX, and in general making me want to violate it each time I look at it. Juri keeps telling me not to unF my own TV.

It's been a weird few days. I was so out of it that I announced that if I had a Sorting Hat, I'd use it to sort Christian Bale into my pants. Then I told Xio that she was my little tater-tot, so Ka-chan announced that she wanted to be my little hashbrown. @_@ And Kya! I was at Apocalypse Now when you msg'd me! I forgot to set myself away. I'm not sure who would be top for S-sama and Bunchuu...which is scarier, topping Shinkouhyou, or being topped by him? @______@

    tired-tired. I better crash.
